Faculty-Led Study Abroad
Course Number and Title
Course number
The faculty-led study-abroad (FLSA) course should have a course number different from that of any on-campus course.
If the FLSA course is an adaptation of an existing on-campus course, then the course number may be close to the course number of the on-campus course but does not have to be in any fixed relationship to the course number of the on-campus course.
Course title
The FLSA course should have a title different from that of any on-campus course.
If the FLSA course is an adaptation of an existing on-campus course, then the title may be the title of the on-campus course with the addition of the word abroad or designation of the country (e.g., in Sweden) or designation of the region (e.g., in Scandinavia).
Multiple countries/regions
Set up different versions of a FLSA course for different countries/regions only if the descriptions are substantially different for each country/region.

Course Submission/Approval Process
Approval by the college
All FLSA courses must be approved by the college offering the course.
Submission to the Office of the Registrar
The FLSA course should be submitted to the Office of the Registrar via CourseLeaf by a representative of the dean’s office authorized to make such submissions.
Circulation via the Office of the Provost
If the FLSA course is completely new, then the Office of the Registrar will forward the course to the Office of the Provost for circulation.
If the FLSA course is an adaptation of an existing on-campus course, then the Office of the Registrar will forward the course to the Office of the Provost only if the difference in description exceeds what would normally be accepted in a requested change of description.
NU Core and NUpath attributes
NU Core
If the FLSA course is completely new, then the Office of the Registrar will forward requests for NU Core attributes to the Office of the Provost for approval.
If the FLSA course is an adaptation of an existing on-campus course, then the FLSA course will normally retain the NU Core attributes of the on-campus course.
The FLSA experience itself may fulfill the NU Core requirement for comparative study of cultures or experiential learning. Consequently, individual FLSA courses should not be coded to satisfy either of these NU Core requirements.
NUpath
Any NUpath attributes must be specifically requested. There are no automatic approvals for NUpath attributes.
